Description
Firni is a traditional creamy rice pudding made with ground rice, milk, and sugar.
It is often flavored with cardamom, rose water, or saffron and garnished with chopped nuts. Typically served chilled in clay bowls, it's a festive dessert popular across South Asia.
Ingredients
- Full-fat milk
- Ground rice (soaked and blended rice)
- Sugar
- Cardamom powder
- Rose water or saffron (optional)
- Chopped nuts (pistachios, almonds)
Steps
- Boil the milk in a heavy-bottom pan and let it simmer.
- Add ground rice slowly while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Cook on low heat until the mixture thickens to a pudding-like consistency.
- Add sugar, cardamom powder, and rose water or saffron if using.
- Pour into serving bowls, garnish with chopped nuts.
- Refrigerate for a few hours before serving chilled.
